I think the tweets have been always important than twitter. The photos you share on FB are more important than FB itself. The role of a platform is to provide you the critical mass of people to interact with and objects through which you can interact. Buzz provides critical mass by automatically adding your connections. Though it does not provide a common social object around which people can interact. It is more of public conversations platform.

See where I am coming from: http://www.slideshare.net/jyri/bookmarks-babies...

I agree, but I totally wanted to avoid that topic in this post :). I think they are going to face a lot of trouble on the privacy front, ( and already are).

On a related note I was reading someones article (don't remember where :( ). The example given was: Imagine there is a guy who talks with his wife, ex-Gf & mistress (ooo! movie script) via gmail . He wakes up one day and suddenly Gmail has publically announced that that he follows these three people ! :)

" In one snap, Google automatically matched up and more importantly introduced 150MM people to social streaming and real-time updates. "

In one snap , Google also blatantly violated users privacy by automatically assigning them followers without requesting their consent. I am all for innovation but the moment you start taking users' preferences for granted and ride rough shod over their privacy you have issues.
